In this short post we lay down our approach for layer connections and game balancing as well as when exactly you should get ready for take off.
First take off, tomorrow Monday 8th @4PM GMT
Bridging the L1 and L2 Gap
One of the key challenges of using a layer on top of a blockchain is to onboard people in and out. Cometh’s collaboration with Aavegotchi will hopefully help on this, we will have to do some heavy lifting to get everybody to add the custom link to the blockchain. Indeed, we recently announced our switch from Arbitrum to Matic to ship to the Ethereum mainnet ASAP. Using Matic comes with some setups:
If you have ever connected your Metamask to a chain that is not natively supported, say Binance Smart Chain, then you know what we are talking about. Layer 2 solutions are maturing at a very quick pace and wallets are following the movement, in the short term that process should be made easier by wallet providers and Metamask is notably working on it:

For the time being, we have prepared a tutorial you will find here and we will assist you on our telegram and discord (#support) channels. Should you be playing Aavegotchi too, you will only have to do that custom network process one time.
Balancing the NFT ⚗️ with Layer 2 Cometh ☄️ before adding the DeFi 🦄
Monday at 4PM GMT we will let players load their spaceships and MUST tokens on our bridge from Ethereum Mainnet to Matic Network at this address (hyperlink coming). On the other side we will airdrop the players some Matic tokens to enable them to pay for their transaction fees. The galaxy will unravel itself with its minable asteroïds. As explained in the whitepaper, game interactions are paid in MUST with the main move being the pulling.
Each spaceship will be accessible to all the players for a pulling service against a fee paid to the spaceship’s owner. Spaceships’ owners are free to set and change the fee they charge at will. Once a spaceship has been pulled, its trajectory parameters change to become the sum of both trajectories (its own and the ones of the “puller”) divided by two. The trajectory remains the same for the spaceship that provided the service (the “puller”).
It’s worth noting that finding the optimal pulling path to mine smart asteroids will be one of the main challenges of the game. Both individual prices for pulling and asteroid trajectories are dynamic. It’s also expected that players will adapt their price for pulling services accordingly to earn a somewhat regular income when they are close to asteroids.
To start with, we are setting up the parameters as :
- Default pull price: 0.01 MUST ⚗️
- Minimum pull price: 0.001 MUST ⚗️
- Pulling fees: 5%
The minimum pull price is meant to deter players colluding and lowering the anticipation skill needed to find the best action. The pulling fees are meant to limit the advantages of players with large amarda that would keep their MUST ⚗️ in their own economy only. The fees collected will be used to generate new comets. We will monitor how it plays out and adjust accordingly.
How good is your spaceship 🛸 ?
The spaceships of Cometh all have an exciting lore that we were constantly asked how this will translate in the game.
Making the game enjoyable and balanced for every player is probably the hardest task we are going to deal with. Our approach will be pragmatic and progressive, we have selected three core characteristics that we distributed on all the spaceship models and on which we are going to do rebalancing on a weekly basis:
- The Mining Area: the size in pixel from which a spaceship can mine
- The Mining Power: the rate at which a spaceship mines
- The Mining Cool-down: how long a spaceship has to wait to before the mining can resume
We have done our best testing and weighting those characteristics privately, now it’s time to put them to the live large scale tests.
Radar, Drill and Machinery all open the room for future perks to let the players customize their spaceships. Overall, the modifiers of each ship add up to the same amount when it comes to its rarity. Keep in mind that this is a first attempt that will be regularly playtested and reworked, the same way popular games are constantly rebalanced. (Have you ever got your main nerfed in SSBU or LOL?)
Play-to-Earn mechanisms: what’s at stake?💰
Cometh is a strategic game where players can earn by playing (or mine by positioning). Players are going to earn rewards by moving their spaceships as close to asteroids as possible. Asteroids are loaded with tokens via two main mechanisms: the sales of spaceships and pulling fees, creating a closed economy for players to enjoy.
For the first month we are going to release asteroids with a total of ~50,000 USDT worth of tokens on it progressively over the weeks of tests (~6,000 at release week, then ~12,000, and ~12,000 again, ~20,000 finally).
Rendez-vous Monday the 8th at 4PM GMT for the opening of the bridge, Around ~1,000 USDT of tokens will be loaded on the comets already and another load of ~5,000 USDT will be added the next day at 9AM GMT to give enough time to all the pilots to jump on the Layer 2.
